Bill O’Reilly is listened to by millions…every week. His Fox News Channel show is the highest rated program in cable news. His radio program is syndicated in hundreds of markets. The politically themed books he has authored are NY Times best sellers. O’Reilly’s has been one of the dominate voices in American media over the past decade. It seems such a prominent personality would be able to succeed in any media endeavor. A book about something as worn over as the Lincoln assassination should have been just another notch in O’Reilly’s star-studded belt.
O’Reilly, no doubt, felt such a move …was only natural. Other news reporters have found success writing history: Evan Thomas, Walter Isaacson, and Jim Swanson are all well-known journalists who have written historical monographs over the past decade. O’Reilly must have seen history as an easy avenue for his ever-expanding media empire.
